Paul Iribe began his career as a caricaturist for magazines and journals. He founded his own journal in 1908and also illustrted a limited-edition portfolio,Les Bobes de

Paul Poiret,for the couturier Paul Poiret, who was highly influential within Paris circles and revolutionized fashion illustration.
Iribe designed exquisite texiles, wallpapersand jewellery, usually bearing his trademark, the floral motif that bacame known as the "rose Iribe" and was widely copied. He also designed Art Deco furniture and objects d'art that incorporated luxury materials such as shagreen rosewood and ebony. his most important interior commision was for the apartment of the couturier Jacques Doucet at 46, Avenue du bois, Paris, which he designed in a sumptuous and luxurious style with the assistance of Legarain.
For this project, executed around 1912, he designed a series of fauteuils-gondole and a mahogany, shargreen and ebony commode that was carved with neo-classical style garlands of flowers and inlaid with sprays of floral motifs.
